Labor Turf Worker

Job Overview
Responsible for the safe maintenance of the designated turf and track racing areas, the upkeep of the turf course to be ready for races.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Operates machinery for the maintenance and care of the racetrack.
• Perform a variety of physically demanding labor tasks on a routine basis and in compliance with all safety standards.
• Ensure general cleanliness of stable and garage area. Clean stalls, alleys, and other backside areas in order to maintain suitable appearance and sanitation standards of facility.
• Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
• Complete all work assignments on time and with accuracy.
• Operate small equipment mower, blower, weed eater, power washer, and a variety of hand tools, table saw, etc. to perform a variety of tasks.
• Portable Rails
• Mark new rail positions with tape measure, and paint markings with aerosol can of paint.
• Set up string line on ‘stretch’ areas.
• Measure with 20 ft. and 10 ft. PVC measures, drill pilot holes and mark with paint.
• Disassemble, move, and reassemble rail parts to new positions.
• Secure rail post support stakes in new position, by using an 8 lb. hammer.
• Put down board sheets (2Ft by 8 FT), for starting gate to enter the turf.
• Removed board sheets when race starts.
• Patch and Repair Turf Course, using buckets and supplied sand mix.
• Turf Course Maintenance
• Irrigate turf course.
• Weed removal.
• Daily debris pick-up and removal from turf course.
• Care for established lawns by aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around the track edge.
• Other activities include, sod laying, planting, fertilizing, digging, raking, and sprinkler installation.
• Use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, hoses, and water guns.
• Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
• Operate vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

• High school diploma or GED preferred and/or 1-2 years minimum of related experience.
• Able to work legally in the United States.
• English fluency required, bilingual a plus.
• Experience with ground maintenance strongly preferred
• Requires the skill and ability to perform physically demanding labor on a routine basis.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Must be tolerant to outside work in extreme weather conditions such as heat and humidity, which may often contain dust and debris.

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to routinely lift and/or move up to 150 lbs. and push, pull, or drag up to 150 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to risks associated with travel between buildings and back and forth to other areas as may be required due to business demands. The employee is also exposed to fumes or airborne particles, including second-hand environmental smoke. The noise level in the work environment varies from light to moderate.
