Who we are: Dirt and Aggregate Interchange, Inc. (D&A): An Oregon heavy civil construction firm that specializes in excavation, road building, road reconstruction, storm and sanitary sewer lines, water lines, site development projects and highway guardrail, cable barrier, etc. We have been in business since 1976. We are looking to replace a dirt/pipe estimator who is retiring after 20 years.
Who you are: You have at least 3 years of previous experience bidding or assisting in the bidding of heavy civil and infrastructure projects (dirt and pipe work). You are looking for exciting projects and long term growth opportunities! Most importantly, you are a team player. Acceptable software experience would be HCSS Heavy Bid or any transferable software, and MS Office applications (Word, Excel, etc.).
The skills needed:
Read, understand and interpret project plans, specifications and bid documents.
Review plans, specifications and bid documents to determine labor, equipment, material and subcontractor requirements and prepare itemized lists.
Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes such as: planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; selecting vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness.
Consult with clients, engineers, vendors, subcontractors and/or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
Develop lists of questions for bidder inquiries to submit pre-bid to the owner to resolve bid document problems/issues prior to bid.
Effectively communicate, interface and get along with other members of the bid team.
Analyze completed project to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies and adjust bid estimates with bid team.
Provide recommendations for changing cost estimating procedure to reduce future discrepancies between estimate and actual cost.
Identify cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.
Prepare material take-offs and determine production rates based on project plans, Specifications and bid documents as well as historical costs and production rates.
Excavation, road building, road reconstruction, storm and sanitary sewer lines, water lines, pump stations, site development projects;
Site development includes residential, industrial and commercial subdivision construction; and
Public and private work as the prime contractor or subcontractor.
Attend pre-bid meetings as assigned. This position requires a driver’s license and your own transportation (mileage is paid).
Ability to work in D&A’s office in Fairview, Oregon at least 40 hours a week. This is not a remote position.
You have at least 3 years of previous experience bidding or assisting in the bidding of dirt and pipe projects.
